Hasik is a small village south of Oman, and a 2 to 3hr drive from Salalah. The village is famous for being one of the best fishing destinations in the world. Here you can find all kind of fish all year-round. Though Hasik is considered to be an underdeveloped village, it is currently undergoing some major developments to make it more tourist friendly. If you do go fishing in Hasik, expect to catch the most fish you’ve ever caught in one day, in your life. The  fishfishme team (4 people) caught 60 bluefish in Hasik in less than 3 hrs, weighing in at more than 90Kg!! And we were fishing very close to the shore. But, the best part of course is being able to turn your catch over to one of the local restaurants who will prepare you a tasty meal.

Weather and fishing season

The best time to go fishing in Hasik (generally in the southern region) is from September until Mid-December and also in March and April. January and February are quite windy.
January and February: Fair (Windy months, On-shore fishing is still very good)
March & April: Very Good
May to August: Risky (Monsoon season)
September to Mid-December: Best (with October being the best month)

How to get there?

The easiest way to get to Hasik if you are not living in Oman, is to fly to Salalah, and drive to Hasik from there. You usually won’t find a direct flight to Salalah so you’ll need to fly to Muscat first, then on to Salalah from Muscat. The flight from Muscat to Salalah takes about 1.5hrs, and the drive between Salalah and Hasik is about 190km, which should take you around 2.5hrs. The roads are new and well developed, and you might even see some wildlife along the way.

We recommend renting an SUV for the trip, which on average costs 40ROM per day depending on the season and the brand of the vehicle.

About fishing technique

You need to be prepared to enjoy the local way of fishing. People in Oman generally fish using handlines, which is the custom for most of the Arab Gulf region in general. It is rare to find someone fishing with a rod in Hasik. Also, fishermen prefer to fish at night. A fishing trip in Hasik will usually start 2-3 hours before sunset, and can last until midnight. Another great time to go fishing is early morning, around 5-6AM. The captain is usually flexible with the trip schedule.

What do you need to take with you?

All of your fishing equipment. Fishfishme will be happy to help provide some equipment, but we highly recommend that you bring most of your equipment with you. It is hard to find a fishing equipment store in Hasik, so don’t rely on purchasing equipment when you arrive here.

We strongly recommend bringing the following:

1- Variety of line sizes (from size 70 up to 160)
2- Hooks of all sizes (from size 1 up to 6/0)
3- Fishing weights (fishing sinkers)
4- Gloves (you need good ones, avoid cheap gloves)
Rest is up to you.

Where to stay? Where to eat?

Accommodation

Fishfishme will help arrange a place for you to stay. This will usually be a simple flat with 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms, a living room and a kitchen. Cost is approximately 35-25ROM.

Restaurants and food

The great thing about fishing is that you can eat what you catch. There is a great small local Indian restaurant that will be happy to fry-up your catch for you to gorge on.
